About Us
Mai Glow is a sustainable fair trade health and beauty brand dedicated to empowering women cooperatives, farmers, and local artisans in Nigeria. Our mission is to create a West African marketplace for natural health, beauty, and wellness products by sourcing directly from these communities. Through sustainable practices and value addition, we aim to boost community economic development and create job opportunities. Our vision is to be a leading advocate for ethical practices, envisioning an Africa that grows and develops through trade, not aid.
Our Story
Mai Glow was founded by Abdul, a Nigerian-American from a family of merchants in Kano, Nigeria. Growing up, he experienced first hand how unsustainable it is for African to develop and eradicate poverty, by exporting raw materials and importing finish goods. After graduating college in 2015, he joined the Nigerian National Youth Service Corps, where he began working with Women Cooperatives, local Farmers, and community Artisans with the goal of boosting community economic growth through sustainable practices, value addition, and job creation.
"Owner of Glow"
"Mai" means "Owner of" in Hausa-a Chadic language spoken in many West African countries-predominantly in Nigeria and Niger Republic, with significant minorities in countries like Chad, Benin Republic, Cameroon, and Ghana.
Our Commitment
Mai Glow's commitment to our communities stems from our moral obligation and the desire to utilize local resources for the empowerment of Nigerian and African communities. Our objective is to mitigate poverty and foster gender equality, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability. All projects initiated by Mai Glow aim to empower African communities, enabling them to share their skills and knowledge globally and elevate themselves from poverty. This commitment aligns seamlessly with the "African development through Trade not Aid" vision, emphasizing sustainable growth, poverty alleviation, gender equality, and environmental sustainability.
